I worked out how to do this terrific Issuu application that Gabi Campanario, Isabel Fiadeiro and other Urban Sketchers have been making virtual books with. I used CorelDraw to place the sketches on different pages, add titles etc, then saved it as a PDF before uploading it to Issuu - Voila! - a book! I found I had to reduce the images to 100 dpi otherwise it takes forever to upload. To turn the pages you click on the little arrow on the right. To see a bigger version click on 'View in fullscreen' in the middle of the window.

Hi Cathy, just love these virtual books! Have you published yours? Please give me the link to have a look.
I use Blurb BookSmart (http://www.blurb.com/make/booksmart) and they produce a lovely looking book and also have competition entries, etc., but I haven't published mine, just sits on my PC for me to look at!
Hi Maree - If you click on the little arrows to the right of the book, the pages turn, and if you click on the book here (where it says View in fullscreen) it should take you to the Issuu website where you can see the big version. Is that what you mean by publishing it?
Possibly... BookSmart also works like that, but BookSmart charges a fee to put on their site (for sale) So the view here goes directly to their site? Did you have to pay to have it there?
No, it's all free! :)
Sorry, Maree - this is a link, not sure if you have to register or log on to view it http://issuu.com/cathygatland/docs/joburg_streets_book
What a neat idea! Had fun looking through your book - quite a few of the paintings were familiar!
A beautiful book... you should be proud!
Cool! Thanks for the tips. Looks great!
It's a beautiful book!
Had a look Cathy (didn't have to register) and this is great! Do you mean to tell me you go round all the streets and sketch this? That's amazing! Well done! I'm in awe...
great book . I have to start one too......
Thank you all so much for your enthusiasm - I must say I feel quite pleased with how these little sketches look so much more 'important' in this form!
Maree I've sketched them over a long period - I was surprised to see how many there were when gathered together (I left out the really scrappy ones).
What a great way to showcase your art, Cathy. I also love your witty title on this post. Great watercolour sketches - most of them I haven't seen before. Beautiful sense of place too.
Now I'm going have to resist playing with this application or I'm never going to get anything done!
This is way so cool Cathy! It was great going through the pages of Jannesburg!
Robyn thanks! sometimes titles wittily pop into one's head, and others all I can come up with is 'By the Stream':-D
It is a way cool toy Liz - glad you enjoyed the tour!
Wow! This looks fantastic!! I'm going to have a closer look!
Wow, wow, wow!!!!!! I'm speechless! I wish this book could be paper so I could buy it and brwse throughit whenever i feel like it! It's beautiful!!!!!!
Fantastic! I enjoyed seeing it larger after clicking on the book.
Oh, I loved seeing your "sketchbook"! May I copy you?
ronell
I can hardly wait to try this too. This is just too amazing! You are SO techy.
Ronell, what a question - of course! I'd love to see your sketchbooks 'published'!
Ginny, only because others pass on their techy tips :) Look forward to seeing your ISSUU book too
I've had to come back for a second look, Cathy. I've joined issuu but am really stuck on how to make my own book. I know I have all sorts of applications on my computer to do this - and I will work it out - meantime I think your virtual book is wonderful.
