That darned cat

I'm busy painting something very hard... eggshells on a white plate...why? why? But in the meantime here is a sketch of our devoted-to-each-other cat and dog that I did a few evenings ago. This is what I wrote on the page...
I'm not good at drawing animals...I absolutely love my pets but just don't get excited about rendering them on paper. But sometimes they are the only available models, so here they are again - Gucci-dog being good and still, and Kenzo-cat being devilish. She seemed to challenge me as I drew - if I was doing her eyes, she closed them, if her head, she licked herself, her paws, she stretched them, her tail, she flicked it, all the while staring at me and saying, "Draw THAT, sucker!"

I think you're very good at drawing your pets! I have 3 cats and a dog--you'd think they're a ready, at-hand, always interesting subject: but I'm afraid to even try!

I think its a beautiful drawing, Cath. I love the ink lines in Kenzo especially - and Gucci's paws.
I must have a go at something - our little Peanut puppy?? But the laundry has got way out of control...

Well - the cat looks spikey rather than soft, and I made her look really mean - at least they don't complain about their portraits, so you don't need to be too afraid to try, Laura!

Thanks Gillian - do draw your puppy while she's so cute (and asleep) - I'm very familiar with that laundry problem...

Eggshells? I think Andrew Wyeth said that painting eggs and painting an ear were the two hardest things to do. You must enjoy challenges. Looking forward to seeing the eggshells. ANd I enjoyed your blog. I'll be back soon to see more.

I think you have caught the essence of cat vs dog here, Cathy. There was an email doing the rounds at one time, but this says it all! I managed to avoid taking a little cat home from the vet yesterday... she had been left on the doorstep in a basket. Better than total abandonment, I suppose. They said she was very shy, but she did all the back-rolls and big yellow eyes thing for me. Going away today so my resolve was firm!XX

Sandy, thanks for the visit - I hope the eggshells will be worth seeing - perhaps I should do WIP posts so I can get advice along the way!

Well done Vivienne, on resisting that kitty (hope she finds another home though!) - they are so seductive, and then take over and rule the roost! Hope you have a fabulous trip XX
