Thanks for posting this. I heard about her passing here on the news. What a legend! At age 10'ish I remember Anne G. explaining to Joanne & me who M.M. was; she sang The Click Song for us. Then got out her M.M. L.P. for us to listen to the real thing; we were mesmerized.

I just remember her always being part of the fabric of life - in the news, on old B&W Rhodesian TV - in spite of being banished here, always discussed - and since the new SA, welcomed and embraced as a heroine of the struggle, though she said she was never a politician, just talked and sang about her own life and what made her sad.
Do you know she sang on the same bill as the other M.M. (Marilyn) at JFK's birthday - I just found that out!

Good grief! No, I did not know that! That is very interesting. I don't remember her being on B&W telly in Bulawayo? Wow - you have a good memory. I think I first learned of her when A.G. told me about her. Then of course followed her career somewhat when she came into the news - Paul Simon concert etc.

I'm thinking now perhaps I always KNEW her name - kind of like Palmolive soap, or Winston Churchill. But didn't understand who she was until Anne explained who she was, sang The Click song for us, got out her M.M. L.P. etc. (A.G. played a huge part in my education you know!) Joanne & I played The Click song over & over again on the Gorf's portable record player. We were not interested in the rest of the L.P.!

ja - I can't be sure that I saw her on TV in early childhood, or later when we went back on holidays - its a bit of a blur, but she just seemed to always have been around. I don't remember you and JG singing the click song, but I do remember Hava Nagila and 'Tarup a sien a son'!;-D
