Shadows from Different Folks

After all that purple oil paint, I decided to join in with the Different Strokes from Different Folks project at the last minute. I got out my watercolours again, and some Caran d'Ache crayons for texture, and had a go at those shadows. They didn't come out the way I was intending them to - the Grumbacher Indigo that I used for the darkest tones, doesn't like mixing with others, and it is very dark indeed! But I quite enjoyed the unexpected results. I think this has a slightly ominous feeling, with the plain blue background... is it water? Is it sky? Is it a light?
I loved looking at all the interpretations from all the artists taking part - some fabulous paintings!

I love the feeling it give. I think I would name it "a step in faith"

Great job on this one. The Caran d'Arche was just the perfect thing for texture.

I think you did a great job on this....I looked at all the entries this week and yours really caught my eye. Yes, the blue is slightly ominous. That's what makes it so successful.

Great stuff, Cath. They do seem to be on the edge of the unknown. Like all of us! Flat Earth Society still going do you think?
Fabulous darks really emphasise that ethereal blue.

Wonderful painting, Cathy. I like how you cropped it, and I love how the shadows turned. I printed this week's reference out and wanted to paint it--as I do every week--but didn't get to it! ;-( DSFDF is a great blog.
