While my husband and my son went into the Portuguese fish shop on the other side of town to stock up on olive oil and spices, I stayed in the car to sketch these tomato-sellers that were right in front of me. They did great business - a constant stream of customers buying packets and boxes of tomatoes, that they restocked from their truck. As I wrote in the moleskine, I wish I could have drawn all the varied and colourful buyers that came along. I drew with my uni-pin fineline and added the colour, which I'd been making mental notes of as I went along, at home with the waterbrush and little Cotman set.
Why do young men have to wear their pants half-mast, with their big old boxers bulging out the top, I wonder?

I don't know why young men insist on this fashion statement... including my own. I find myself demanding in sharp tones before he leaves for school in the morning: HAVE YOU GOT A BELT ON? Some of the boys I see leave the school in the afternoon have to walk with a strange waddle, their feet placed far apart - because their jeans are hanging so far down their bottoms. It is not a new idea; it was the fashion trend of young guys in the townships when we were growing up!!
Lovely little sketch, by the way!
I have that same question...it stresses me out. I have the urge to pull up those pants...wonder what will happen if I do...
