Jasmine bouquet

I've been bound again to desk and computer, and absolutely longing to get out into the fabulous spring weather and its sights and smells. I finished the next stage of my work this morning and didn't have to go far to find a ready-made bouquet to sketch, right outside the dining room window. I thought I'd practice a bit with my Inktense pencils before taking them out for a walk... started out quite tentatively, then when I realised I was not going to capture every bud and blossom, got looser and scribblier. Although the colours are fairly restricted, I think they'll be good for laying down quick impressions of a scene. Now, for a week I think, I'm freeeeeeee!!!

enjoy your time. I like this piece very much. I always had a fondness for Calla lilies. And your piece has them standing out.

Oh my Cathy what wonderful sketches of Spring! Love the freesias - one of my favourite flowers - you can almost smell them from your painting! And the jasmine and Arums are amazing. My jasmine has been blooming for over a month now and the smell is wonderful!

Your jasmine is much more abundant than ours - and I admire the way you have captured it loosely but still able to identify it as jasmine. I hated Arum lilies as a child now I adore them. Yours are lovely.

Thanks Dominique - we call them arum lilies here, I wonder why? - I will enjoy some free time!

Hello Liz - our jasmine usually starts much earlier, but the cold this year delayed them - they are spectacular now, and the smell intoxicating!

Robyn, I wasn't too fond of arum lilies when younger either - they grew like weeds around the Cape where we lived and familiarity bred contempt I think. Love them now too!

Just radiant with that kind of intense Cathy energy and light. How lovely to look at this after weeks of stress.
