Spring Day in the South

Spring has arrived right on cue - our long (to me, *Cathy ;-) cold winter has morphed into warm, balmy, fragrant, birds-and-bees, blossoms and lime-green trees miracle once more. I haven't been here for a whole week again, as life got busy and some more work arrived, but I had to give a nod to the season that is bursting out all around and sketch in watercolours these freesias that have obligingly popped up in my garden, though I'm sure they were planted a few years ago.
I hope whether you're entering Spring or Autumn, that you can get out and enjoy the changes.

Cathy's comment in a previous post: *However, I must tell you I disagree on the "long" winter we've had... for us europeans expats your south african winters are so amazingly short compared to ours in Europe!!! But it's only a matter of point of view!! I entirely agree on the "cold" bit though - even as a European!!!

Ahh Freesias... I can smell them - the colour and transparency is perfect ,and the way they sit up on their stems.
Thanks for looking after Nelliy, to add to your busy-ness. Still cold and very changeable here in Perth WA, but flowers appearing and the beautiful days are soooo beautiful.

Well the day with Nell and cousins was a very nice kind of busy-ness and a welcome breath of fresh air, fun and chit-chat. Hope your garden plans are coming together - ready for next spring perhaps!

I'm glad you took a break to share your beautiful Freesias, Cathy. I only had one come up this year which was a huge disappointment as I too love the perfume. Lovely watercolour - and I'm sure there will be more treats as spring spins her magic for you.

The first sign of spring here, too, are the freesias. Love the purple and yellow and green of this watercolor sketch, Cathy. Happy Spring as we celebrate an early Autumn (my favorite time of year) here in the states.

LOVELY Freesias Cathy. But I feel as if we've skipped spring and straight into summer. It's gonna be 29 degrees C today!

Thanks Robyn - I don't have many more than these come up - I had to buy some to put in a vase for the perfume.

Happy Autumn to you, Rhonda - I believe its a spectacular season over there!

Maree - yes, my goodness! From cold to hot in a few days - these spring flowers are going to wilt...

One of my favourite flowers Cathy and they're beautiful. It is getting warmer, isn't it??

This only says SPRING!! And just as you are popping into spring, we are mellowing into autumn. But that's OK...every season has its beauty and joy. At least I'll get an extension on summer, when I come visit here!

What beautiful flowers! I'm as happy to be entering Fall as you are to be entering Spring! Been a long - hot - humid - sticky - icky -(you see my point here? :-) summer and I'm SO looking forward to cold weather. Yes! I do hope we get snow... and plenty of it!

I was able to open a window for the first time this morning and let some cool air into the house; not for long though! A/C is breathing out on me again now. There is NOTHING like the scent of freesias to welcome spring! When Hilary had Bun a farmer friend walked into her hospital room with an armload of them - so freesias always reminded her of her daughter's arrival in the world.

Happy spring to you too Liz! A long time since I've seen a Cape one...

Thanks Ronell - well I'm enjoying your autumn berries - great to see what's happening on the other side of the world.

Hi Teresa - it's only snowed here once since I've lived in Joburg - 28 years ago! We live in hope that it'll happen again. Enjoy your cooler weather.

Gillian, yes, the freesias will forever be a sweet and poignant reminder of new life in every sense. Continuing in her little grandson's birthday today :)
May you have more cool breezes soon xx

fresias in my garden too! I love this part of the year too, the winter is always too long anyway - whatever its actual length ;-)
I love your sketch, the colours are full of promise, just like the season!
