Four of us went sketching yesterday at Zoo Lake,
a lively place to go on a Saturday. Moyo restaurant where I've sketched before was abuzz with customers, but we started on a quiet balcony overlooking a solitary woman working on her laptop amongst the treetops - she was the unwitting model for a couple of us - my daughter included, who I was delighted to have with us. I sketched the same mosaic angels that I've done before, but I think I might save them for a Christmas post a bit later in case I don't get anything else done. I then wandered around until I found where the others had got to - Barbara was busy drawing these guys selling wire bicycles and xylophones but they had tired of posing by then and I had to scribble them down fast. We went down to the water's edge and sketched the ice cream man and his bell ringer, after which I felt quite sketched out and went home - lots more subject matter down there for another trip!
Here are my daughter Alex's sketches of the laptop lady, a wooden fish and a metal sculpture...
Cathy, I enjoy your brilliant and sensitive line work. You capture any attitude so very well! Alex has a very good style and will bring it far!
I think I want a wire bicycle!
What a wonderful day and such varied subjects. Love the way you chose to add colour to the front figures only in one of them. Tell your daughter the metal sculpture is great - taking after mum I see. How nice to be sketching together. Loved the wire bicycles!
You bring Joburg to life Cathy! And well done to your daughter on these great sketches - a chip off the old block!!
Again, another wonderful outing you have shared with us - and what an extra pleasure, to have your daughter in the group and sketching, too :) I like all of these - your daughter is talented and I hope to see more of her work included with your own. Guess I'll have to wait for those angels, though :)
How much fun to sketch with your daughter--she has inherited your ability too. I'm especially impressed by her rendition of the confounding sculpture!
Your drawings, as always--well, except maybe when they're of crickets! ;-)--are delightful!
Je suis toujours ravie et émerveillée de me promener sur votre blog et de découvrir l'ensemble de merveilleux dessin qui m'entraînent dans un rêve...
Wonderful sketches Cathy! And how lovely that you and your daughter share the same interest :0D
Fabulous sketches and your daughter is so talented too.
I want a wire bike from a wire man as well.
The apple did not fall far from the tree. Your daughter's sketches are terrific as are yours. Thanks for sharing a bit of life from your city.
Nice work Cathy..all of them. And alex's work is very good too...so nice to be able to do it with your daughter.
Grea qwork you both.
Beautiful work! I love all of them! They've got different style, but all of them stunning!
