Flutter by, butterfly

Oh, I'm having trouble getting going in this new year! I've been cleaning my studio, slowly, sluggishly, for two weeks - hoping that when it's sorted out (still not there yet!) I'll get to my easel and start on at least one of my intentions for 2013 - more painting. I feel I need to sort out this blog too, freshen it up, but that seems like a mammoth task and many hours on the computer. In the meantime, this is a watercolour sketch from the dining room window a week or two ago when things were rampantly growing in a spell of hot, wet weather. There's been a huge migration of little white butterflies swirling endlessly through the garden, from west to east, over Johannesburg and much of the country. Where they come from and where they go, I don't know, but they are lovely!

Hi, Cathy,
The sketch is brilliant!! Coincindence, me,too, cleaning up the studio. Nearly there, if I can sort out the last year works. BUT be careful. A friend fractured a hand after slipping on piled papers. Hope yours will go well.
Best wishes, Sadami

I haven't seen those little white butterflies since I was a child in the 5o's. We used to get them going by for days every summer.

Lovely sketch of the butterflies Cathy! I've been watching them too, passing by in the thousands. These are Brown-veined Whites and they come from Botswana (Kalahari) and migrate through Mozambique and have been spotted miles into the Indian ocean! The eat and mate en-route and then die - what a shame!

Hi Cathy,

It seems like easy work, but I know it is not easy. Today, I tried painting flower, but the problem is how to paint leaves. I can see lots of negative paint in this piece. Great work!!!

Lovely painting.

I'm sure you'll feel motivated soon, maybe it's a touch of January Blues?

Beautiful green foliage. And I know how you feel. I've had no energy to do anything so far this year.

Thanks everybody for your feedback - Sadami, I'll be careful, that's the last thing I need!...and Maree, for that interesting info. Am going away on a short beach holiday tomorrow, I'm sure that will help rejuvenate and refresh into February and beyond!
