Autumn Break

Whee! Finished with the commissioned illustrations for now, and having emailed them off this morning, I fairly dashed down the road to Emmarentia Dam where the clear autumn sunshine and the ducks were calling. After weeks of careful black lines and digital colouring it was so good to dip a brush into real watercolour and splash it onto real paper!
I see now that the waterline is none too straight and the water itself rather murky and unsatisfactory. Lots of room for improvement, but it was a lovely hour or so, and I was glad to catch some of the autumn colours and get away from the computer.
I apologise for not doing much commenting lately (though I have been checking out most of my favourite blogs over breakfast or tea) - after hours on end on the 'pooter and with eyes, neck and shoulders screaming for mercy, I just put it on hold for a while. But thank you to all my visitors here for dropping by and taking the time to leave comments - it is as always very much appreciated. I should be back in the blogging saddle again soon!

Hello C! This is so bright and cheerful - would love to enjoy an autumnal stroll down to Emmarentia Dam with you. Have seen quite a few Mommy ducks followed by lines of yellow, fluffy babes in various bodies of water around SL. Glad you're project is finished so you can do your own thing again.

Well done on finishing the project. This looks lovely and relaxed ... happy ducks... and such beautiful colour.

Congratulations on completing your project, and for getting out and having some "me time" for yourself. It's enjoyable for me to see my favorite season, autumn, painted while we are in the midst of spring and rainy weather. Love the colorful trees.

Hi sisters - I still have more to do on the projects, but only after a bit of market research on the drawings, so having a break. We're going to CT for a few days on Saturday - yay! - will be a real change of scenery. Wish you could join us there on a balcony in Camps Bay too!

Thanks Rhonda - yes, against the tide of all the springtime posts on most of the blogs, apart from other southern hemisphere ones, but I love autumn too. The colour is almost over!

Hiya! You've really captured the bright sun in this rectangle of pure happiness! I so know what you mean about idly browsing on the computer taking up far to much creativity time. 5 mins quickly becomes half an hour...

Hi Cathy, your post are looking really good and I also like the pencil drawings of animals.
curious about what was Ophra saying about Mauritania we've been on a political standstill since the last "coup d'etat" last august

this painting is great. I can feel your freedom in this painting. Fall colors. I keep trying to wrap my head around the fact that you are now going through fall. I just got my vegetable garden in.

Thanks Mark, for your visit and comment - I've just done it again - sat down to send an email and still here an hour later!

Hi Isabel - I left a link to the Oprah article on your blog comments - it was a programme about Beauty around the world.

Thank you Pat - yes I remember feeling a bit smug when much of blog-world were moving into winter and we were nice and warm. Now the tables are turned - cold and frost fast approaching!

Gosh Cathy, this is fantastic - winter on the Highveld is really glorious!

It sure is Liz - we are coming to the Cape for a few days at the same time, I hear, as a double-cold front and gale force winds... and I'm wondering why we don't just stay right here in the sunshine!! (It would be so nice to try and meet some Cape bloggers, but there won't be time, this time unfortunately)

I love your art. This is a wonderful light filled sketch.

The light in this sketch is so bright and wonderful; the orange foliage is beautiful, and I love the tree trunks!
Reading you post I realize what I should have had in my workshop was more enjoyment: I was struggling too much! The joy in painting it is what makes a painting "good"!

Thanks Cathy, Ricky and Laura - It doesn't always happen that painting is all happiness and light - I guess everyone has to struggle sometimes - but great when it is just a joy.
