A Family Wedding

At last, sketches of my niece's wedding in England in May. In the comments in my previous post about sketching at weddings, I said how much harder it is when you have an emotional involvement, when you're trying too hard, and when you're a guest and not just an onlooker. The wedding, the bride, the setting, were all so incredibly beautiful that I really couldn't do them justice, but as a memento - to dearest Jo and Steve, this comes with love and best wishes for a wonderful future...
(I added the text for this Issuu publication as a brief explaination and link between the drawings)

This is so beautiful! I know they won't have words to describe how this special gift makes them feel - and what a treat to have forever and ever!!! (I loved the way you chose what to color in and what to leave just a line drawing, never doing too much.)

What an absolutely perfect story of a wedding this is! I love the way you've worked in so many elements -- the real people with just the right amount of detail, the impressions of flowers everywhere, the wrought iron gate, the Palladian windows, and of course the dancing elephants in the bundu where it all began...

Thanks Rhonda and Charlene, I'm so glad you think so - I forgot to say, the dancing elephants are figurines that the bride made herself to put on top of the wedding cake (you can just see them again in the cake sketch).

Still overwhelmed by this superb, unique and precious gift to my daughter.
Hint to others: it is a HUGE ask to request a loved guest to undertake such a mission and I just hope it did not leave you feeling too sidelined, Cathy!
If asked again, say ONE sketch, max!!Because you will be asked!!!!

Thanks so much everybody!!
Vivienne, I wanted to sketch at the wedding anyway... the only difference having you know about it, was that I couldn't scrap it if it wasn't working out and give them a salad spinner instead ;) It wasn't a huge request at all.

Cathy, this is so beautiful! I'm speechless! You may have been more emotionally involved with this wedding, but the sketches are stunning, and the words sound like a true fairy tale! They must be thrilled and moved by such a wedding present!

Oh, Cathy, I know exactly what it is to make sketches for a wedding. I did this a couple of years ago, back when I thought I might make a specialty of it as part of my art business. It's very, very nerve-wracking, knowing the final product is going be a memento to the bride and groom of their most special day. Yours is a real triumph of love and skill! Wow, what a lovely, lovely book you've made for them.
