Parkview Christmas Market

Christmas Markets have been in full swing in Joburg - getting their business done before everyone disappears to the coast for the holidays. I went to this one in Parkview on Saturday - it has been so hot and sunny but the weather turned cold, wet and grey, unfortunately for everyone who worked hard to put this together, and the charities that benefit. Still, quite a few turned up and it went on over three days, so I hope they made a good profit.
Lots to draw, with musicians, jugglers, dancers, pretty stalls, children and angels - and Father Christmas scandalously dressed in blue for his sponsor. I think I wasn't the only one put off, some of the children looked at him very doubtfully!

Dear Cathy,
Oh, I love all your sketches!! (BTW, wasn't it crazy hot?) I also love your post, merrily, heart warming. The last sentence makes me burst into laughter!
Best wishes, Sadami

Hi Sadami, thanks so much - I don't think it was as hot as you had it in Sydney, but more than hot enough! Suddenly summer has disappeared again - hope it's back soon!

What lively sketches, I love them. I can feel the atmosphere. Don't complain about the cold, it's literally freezing here in the UK. What is summer? I have forgotten!

Hi Cathy, Love the sketches. The stall with the pink and purple dresses and bracelets is striking.

That blue Santa stopped me in my tracks. What were they thinking????

I felt a little shock horror myself at a blue Santa. Wonderful sketches though. I love the lady with the party dresses.

Fantastic "Sketches" (I don't like to call them sketches because they are fully complete in themselves) - loved Father Christmas in blue :) Of course, I am partial to blue! ha ha
Happy Christmas to you and your's - and thank you for sharing your wonderful artwork this year.

Oh Wow! I just found your blog via Rhonda's website and this post made me sooooo homesick. I spent 30 years living in Parkview and only left there when I moved to the UK. My parents still live there and we visit from time to time.

Your sketches made me wish I could be there. I'll be following your blog from now on. Love the work.

Hi Vandy - Parkview is nearby, so I sketch there quite often. I'm trying to figure out how to make a link to all the posts about it, when I do I'll put it on the blog. Hope they don't make you sad though! It's a lovely suburb.
